RIMAS VISGIRDA

Rimas VisGirda began his academic career in science, earning a degree in physics from California State University at Sacramento. He later received a Master of Arts in Art degree from the same university, and completed a Master of Fine Arts in ceramics and sculpture at Washington State University. He has exhibited his work, given workshops in ceramics, and lectured internationally. He is represented in over 30 public as well as numerous private collections. His work is pictured in many books on ceramics as well as periodicals in the field. He has taught at colleges and universities on the west coast and in the Midwest since 1973.

In 1988 he visited the Soviet Union as a guest of the USSR Union of Artists and has participated in a number of symposia in Eastern Europe during the ensuing years. These experiences have started to manifest themselves in his work.

He retired from full-time teaching in 1997 and currently resides in scenic Champaign, Illinois where he collects fortune-telling cups, is a home-dad for nine year old Tadas and six year old Jonas -and tries to maintain a studio.
